  15 <h2><a name="s7">7.</a> <a href="sylpheed.html#toc7">Dialogs and views</a></h2>
  16 <p>The appearance of the Sylpheed-Claws windows is controlled by
  17 a Gtk+ theme (as Sylpheed-Claws is based on the Gtk+ toolkit).
  18 Read the Gtk+ or your distribution documentation to find
  19 how to change the Gtk+ theme.</p>
  20 <h2><a name="ss7.1">7.1</a> <a href="sylpheed.html#toc7.1">Folder view</a>
  21 </h2>
  22 <p>The folder view shows you all the mail folders that you have
  23 created, in a tree-like structure. If you want to see the messages in a
  24 specific folder, just click the name of the folder once, and in the
  25 summary view (2) you can see the messages in the selected mail folder.</p>
  26 <p>When you see a + sign in front of a folder name, that means the
  27 folder branch of that part of the tree is 'collapsed'. You can expand
  28 that part by clicking the + sign. In that same manner you can also
  29 collapse the - sign in front of an expanded branch of the folder tree.</p>
  30 <p>The folder pane can be resized be dragging (left mouse button down)
  31 the handle found on the right of the folder view.</p>
  32 <p>The folder window can be detached from the main Sylpheed-Claws window
  33 by selecting the menu action: <code>View -&gt; Separate folder tree</code>.
  34 When exiting the current state of the folder window (attached or
  35 detached) is saved to be restored when re-starting Sylpheed.
  36 To re-attach the folder window, de-select the menu entry.</p>
  37 <p>The folder view's columns are the name of the folder, count of new
  38 messages, count of unread messages, total count of messages. If some of
  39 these columns are useless to you, you can disable them via the <span
  40  style="font-style: italic;">View/Set displayed columns/in Folder list</span>
  41 menu.</p>
  42 <h3>Special folders:</h3>
  43 <p><i>Draft:</i> here you store messages that you want to send out more
  44 often, or you want to work on some more. Using the 'reedit' option from
  45 the message menu, you can edit the message further.</p>
  46 <p><i>Trash:</i> in here all your deleted messages go. Depending on the
  47 common preferences setting, this box is or is not emptied when you end
  48 Sylpheed.</p>
  49 <p><i>Sent:</i> in here are saved the messages you send (enabled by a
  50 common preference setting and the folder can be changed by an account
  51 preference setting).</p>
  52 <p><i>Queue:</i> this folder contains the composed messaged waiting to
  53 be sent (with Sylpheed-Claws message sending can be delayed).</p>
  54 <h2><a name="ss7.2">7.2</a> <a href="sylpheed.html#toc7.2">Summary view</a>
  55 </h2>
  56 <p>The summary pane can show you many things. You can select what you
  57 want to see from the View menu, selecting the option "Set displayed
  58 columns/in Message list". A list of all options is:
  59 </p>

  61   <li>Number: shows the MH number of the message</li>
  62   <li>Score: the score of the message, as set by filtering rules</li>
  63   <li>Locked: shows if the message is locked</li>
  64   <li>Mark: shows if the message is marked.</li>
  65   <li>Status: shows if the message is read or not</li>
  66   <li>Attachment: shows MIME attachments</li>
  67   <li>From: who sent the message</li>
  68   <li>To: who received the message</li>
  69   <li>Subject: what the message is about</li>
  70   <li>Date: the date of sending by the sender</li>
  71   <li>Size: the size of the entire message including attachments</li>
  72 </ul>

  74 <p>You can sort the summary view in many ways, by clicking the button
  75 that is above the column. Click once to sort going up (a-z), click once
  76 more to sort going down (z-a).</p>
  77 <p>If you think the size of a column is not right, you can adjust that
  78 by placing the mouse cursor next to the button of the column you want
  79 to adjust, press mousebutton1 (left button) and drag the column to the
  80 width you want it to have.</p>
  81 <p>Select a message by clicking on it with the mouse. Once the summary
  82 pane has the focus of the program, you can also move up and down in the
  83 list through the cursor keys, or pressing "p"(revious) and "n"(ext) as
  84 in Pine, and more: you can define shortcuts in the <span
  85  style="font-style: italic;">View/Go to/</span> menu.</p>
  86 <h2><a name="ss7.3">7.3</a> <a href="sylpheed.html#toc7.3">Message view</a>
  87 </h2>
  88 <p>In the message view you can read the message that you selected in
  89 the summary pane. If you entered the summary pane without selecting a
  90 message, the message view will be empty. At the top of the message view
  91 some info is presented about the message you are reading, as well as
  92 some statistics on the selected folder.</p>
  93 <p>You can scroll up and down in the message by using the arrow keys
  94 (after clicking inside the message), or by using the scrollbar.</p>
  95 <p>The size of the message and summary views can be adjusted by
  96 dragging
  97 (with the left mouse button down) the handle that appears between
  98 the two panes.</p>
  99 <p>The small arrow located just below the summary pane scrollbar can
 100 be used to detach the message view. When clicked, the summary view
 101 is extended down to the bottom of the Sylpheed-Claws window, and the messages
 102 are displayed is a separate window (when you double click them in the
 103 summary pane). The message window
 104 can be restored below the summary one by clicking again the small arrow.</p>
 105 <p>At the right of the message, you can see the differents parts of it
 106 - the message, the body, and if applicable, the attachments it has.
 107 Clicking on the various parts show them; if there's an attachment
 108 Sylpheed-Claws can't handle, you'll be able to open it using an external
 109 application.

 111 <h2><a name="ss7.4">7.4</a> <a href="sylpheed.html#toc7.4">Quick search</a>
 112 </h2>
 113 The quick search is located between the Summary view and the message
 114 view. You can show it, or hide it, using the magnifying glass button at
 115 the left of the status. You can then use the quicksearch in various
 116 ways:<br>
 117 Using the selector at the left, you can choose between Subject, From,
 118 To, and Extended. <span style="font-style: italic;">Subject, From and
 119 To</span> searches in the relevant field, while <span
 120  style="font-style: italic;">Extended </span>is more powerful,
 121 allowing all kinds of searches, like 's blah' to match blah in the
 122 subject, 'C john' to match mails sent to john, but can also match on
 123 message age, size, status, and much more. All the possible symbols are
 124 listed when clicking on the <span style="font-style: italic;">Extended
 125 symbols</span> button. Finally, the selector lets you specify if you
 126 want to search only in the current folder or recursively: sub-folders
 127 of the current folders can be searched too. <br>
 128 When you hit Enter in the search field, the summary view will be
 129 trimmed to display only matching messages. <br>
 130 As the quicksearch doesn't reset itself when you change folders, you
 131 can sometimes get the impression of an empty folder which shouldn't be
 132 that empty. In this case, don't forget to click on the Quicksearch's <span
 133  style="font-style: italic;">Clear </span>button.<br>
