  18 Sylpheed-Claws for the first time</a>

  20 <p>When starting Sylpheed-Claws for the first time, you will be guided
  21 through the first basic steps of the setup.
  22 First a pop-up window will show up and you will be asked
  23 to define the directory Sylpheed-Claws will use to store your
  24 messages and folders. This directory will be created under
  25 your home directory (or under C:\windows\Application Data\Sylpheed
  26 on windows). The default name for this directory is "Mail".</p>
  27 <p>Then the account preferences window shows up. Based on
  28 your configuration (local UNIX mailbox or POP account),
  29 read one of the following sections for the next steps
  30 of the configuration.</p>

  39 account. You can select this account to be the default account

  42   <li>To select your local unix mailbox, in the Protocol box you select
  43 "None (local)".</li>
  44   <li>When you select this option, the "Server for receiving" is greyed
  45 out, since this is not relevant. You can enter the server to send

  48 Settings in the remaining tabs can usually be left at default values.

  50 <p>The <a href="sylpheed-8.html#Receive">Receive</a> tab is not used
  51 in this setup, since you are not polling a server, your mail is
  52 delivered to you.</p>
  53 <p>In the <a href="sylpheed-8.html#Send">Send</a> tab you can select
  54 headers and SMTP authentication.</p>
  55 <p>In the <a href="sylpheed-8.html#Compose">Compose</a> tab you can
  56 define your signature file.</p>
  57 <p>In the <a href="sylpheed-8.html#Advanced">Advanced</a> tab you can
  58 edit the portnumbers for the servers you will be using. This normally
  59 will need no change.</p>
  60 <p>This is basically everything you need to start using Sylpheed-Claws for
  61 local mailboxes. You can select "Message -&gt; receive new mail" or
  62 press the <a href="sylpheed-17.html#shortcut">shortcut</a> and see if
  63 there is new mail!</p>
